Smithtown West High School (’18) standout Alicia D’Aoust officially transferred from Rutgers to Stony Brook Friday morning.

The Stony Brook Women’s Soccer club will get more than just a local talent in Alicia D’Aoust. A highly decorated palyer, D’Aoust’s skills earned her a spot at the United States National Team Camp.

“Alicia was a well-known and highly recruited youth player on Long Island,” head coach Tobias Bischof said in a press release. “I am thrilled she decided to return to Suffolk County. Her professionalism, work ethic and outstanding talent will have a very positive impact on our team.”

D’Aoust began training with the U.S. National team at 13 years old. She was ranked as on the Best XI Girls attending the camp at Raleigh by TopDrawerSoccer.Com in 2014. She spent her senior season training at U.S. Soccer Development Academy rather than competing in high school.

Prior to that, the midifelder earned three all-state selections and three Newsday All-Long Island honors. D’Aoust played four years of letterwinner varsity soccer, debuting as an eighth grader. She plays with incredible athleticism every time she stepped on the field.

“One goal she scored in high school stands out in my mind,” Unkenholz said. “She had to jump probably four feet in the air and bump the ball in from an impossible angle with her thigh. There was a picture of the goal in Newsday at the time.”

D’Aoust said she enjoys playing as left winger the most due to playing iso-ball and showcasing her ‘creative’ playmaking. The midfielder led FC Fury New York U-18/19 with 10 goals and an 81% shooting percentage in 2017-18.

She will also reunite with Jillian Unkenholz after playing together at Smithtown West. The two grew close after Jillian’s father coached Alicia when she was four years old.

D’Aoust played two matches with the Scarlett Knights last season. She missed all of 2019 with a hip injury.

Stony Brook won the America East Championship in 2019.
