Massapequa Captures Nassau AA Title

The stands erupted into a frenzy of blue and gold cheers once the final buzzer sounded and announced the Chiefs as Nassau County champions. At 54 degrees, the breezy cold air was no match to the Massapequa Chiefs as they faced the Syosset Braves winning the match 3-0.

 The first half of the match was a constant battle of possession for the ball between the Chiefs and the Braves. However, the blue and gold team was able to take over in minute 10 where number 19 Sierra Brophy made her first goal of the night with an assist from number seven Jaclyn Protogallo

Syosset tried to get the ball in the back of the net but only found the pole once during the first half of the match and two more during the second. During the second half the Braves continued to attack but, the Chiefs refused to back down. With one goal made in minute 69 by number 23, Gianna Savella with an assist by number 19, Brophy. Just a short three minutes later, Savella made the ball reach the back of the net yet again with another assist by Brophy. 

The Chiefs were named champions and are back on the road to redemption since the Braves were unable to score. 

Assistant Coach Ron Forman, stated “When you think about all of the work that you put in since starting in August and you think about all of the little things that we work on, and when it comes together, it really is a great feeling.”

 Head Coach Bruce Stegner stated, “We didn’t make it this far last year for the first time in a very, very long time for us it was a time for redemption.” Coach even added, “I am very motivated and excited, I think we have a very good chance at doing well for the next game. We’re playing the best soccer right now.” 

The Chiefs will try to defended their title against West Islip on Saturday November 9 at 4 p.m. for the Long Island Championship.
