The Stony Brook Football program is still picking up awards, even if the team won’t take the field again in 2020.

Augie Contressa, Reidgee Dimanche Sam Kamara, Kyle Nunez and TJ Morrison were named to the Phil Steele Preseason All-CAA Football Team earlier today. The Steele honors is one of the most prestigious in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision.

Nunez added another honor to his resumé after making the HERO Sports Preseason All-America Team this May. The right guard commanded the offensive line, which only gave up 17 sacks in over 330 passing attempts last season. He started all 12 games and was named to the 2019 All-CAA Second Team.

Contressa was the iron man on a team plagued by injuries. He currently has a starting streak stretching back 24 games, with 37 career games played. The defensive back topped the team with 88 total tackles and also made the 2019 All-CAA Second Team.

Dimanche complemented Contressa well at the linebacker spot, trailing him by one tackle for the most on the team last year. The duo also led their teammates by forcing 10.5 tackles for loss each.

The bar was set high for Kamara after leading the conference with nine sacks and earning 2018 All-CAA Second Team honors. However, a season-ending injury shut down the redshirt-senior after just five games last year. He was a commanding defensive presence with 16 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and three sacks, prior to the injury. The defensive lineman will return for a fifth season after the NCAA granted him a waiver.

Morrison earned 31 of his 40 tackles solo last year. He also broke up seven passes and recorded an interception and a sack. The cornerback has 97 total tackles and intercepted two passes during his career.

CAA Football postponed its Fall 2020 season due to COVID-19 concerns, earlier this month. The conference did not rule out conducting a season in Spring 2021.
