Massapequa Wins Thrilling Game in Overtime against Farmingdale, 15-14

In a battle of the two top football teams on Long Island, the Massapequa Chiefs won a hard fought battle over the Farmingdale Dalers in overtime. The entire game was physical, and you could tell by watching the game how bad both teams wanted to win, but in the end, Massapequa was able to persevere and win a big game on the road.

In the first quarter, the Dalers had first possession. On said possession, they ran seven plays that resulted in a punt to the Chiefs. On the Chiefs’ first possession, they ran fourteen plays that resulted in an unsuccessful field goal, and the Dalers took over on downs. This concluded the first quarter.

In the second quarter, on the Dalers’ second possession, they ran four plays that resulted in a punt back to the Chiefs. On the Chiefs’ second possession, they ran eleven plays that resulted in a punt to the Dalers. On the Dalers’ third possession, they ran seven plays that resulted in a punt to the Chiefs. On the Chiefs’ third possession, they ran two plays that resulted in a intercepted pass by the Dalers, who took over possession. On the Dalers fourth possession, they ran five plays that resulted in an unsuccessful field goal. The Chiefs took over and took a knee on their fourth possession, which concluded the second quarter and overtime.

In the third quarter, on the Chiefs fifth possession, they went three and out and punted to the Dalers. On the Dalers’ fifth possession, they ran eleven plays that resulted in a punt to the Chiefs. On the Chiefs’ sixth possession, they ran two plays that concluded in a Dalers strip sack, which was a pivotal moment in the game. However the Dalers went three and out on their seventh possession, and punted to the Chiefs, who then muffed the punt and gave the Dalers prime field position. On the Dalers’ eighth possession, quarterback Dennis Finkel threw a touchdown pass and scored the first points of the game, and the extra point was good. This concluded the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, on the Chiefs seventh possession, they ran seven plays that resulted in a rushing touchdown by runningback Tyler Villalta, and the extra point was good. The Chiefs then kicked off to the Dalers. On the Dalers’ eighth possession, they ran five plays that resulted in a punt to the Chiefs. On the Chiefs’ eighth possession, they ran twelve plays that resulted in a turnover on downs, and the Dalers took over. The Dalers ran four plays that resulted in a punt to the Chiefs. On the Chiefs’ ninth possession, they ran five plays that were unsuccessful, and punted to the Dalers. The Dalers, ran three plays that concluded the fourth quarter and regulation.

In overtime, the Dalers received the football and scored a touchdown, and the extra point was good. The Chiefs got the ball back and scored a touchdown. However, the Chiefs decided they wanted to end the game right then and there, and proceeded to go for a two point conversion to seal the game. When they were getting ready to hike the football, they got a Dalers defensive lineman to jump offsides, which was huge. Then with a couple of more yards closer to the endzone, the Chiefs ran it in the for touchdown, and won the game 15-14.

The Massapequa Chiefs have a road game next Friday against Syosset. The Farmingdale Dalers have a road game next Saturday against Heampstead.
